We all love to travel especially when there are Piso fares or low fares but I think most of the time we forget to add travel insurance as part of the budget. I don’t even know if everyone is aware of a travel insurance. I worked in the travel industry for 13 years and this is a topic that is close to my heart. I used to visit travel agencies around Metro Manila and conduct seminars or briefings together with travel insurance companies to promote awareness even to the travel agents. WHY?! Because sometimes even travel agents don’t know the benefits of having one. They don’t even mention it to clients! So why do you ask should I get a travel insurance?
It’s simple! For your PEACE OF MIND! When you travel there are a lot of what if’s… things that are beyond your control. What if you missed your plane? What if something happened to you while on a trip? What if you get sick? Cast those negativity aside and just prepare a small amount of money for your travel insurance and you can just enjoy your trip!
How small is small amount? First of all you have to know the duration of your trip. Travel insurance gets you covered on the day of your flight up to the day of your arrival. For Domestic travel lowest is Php200 while for International travel lowest is Php369. I’m sure you can find lower rates than that but take note you also have to know the benefits and the coverage. This rate is based on Starr International Insurance Company. You can check out their website at http://www.starrinternational.com.ph for more details. Just a note that this is not a paid write-up. It’s just that I use them personally with all our travels and thank God we don’t have to use their service. :o)
So going back. For a minimum of 3D2N travel which is the “usual” travel you will only shell out Php369 per person if let’s say you are travelling with friends or if with family the Family rate is Php963 for an international travel. That’s just a small amount to add to your budget! So what are the coverage? Well there’s a total of 14 sections in the policy but I won’t write them all down. I will just highlight some of the coverage that I think are worth mentioning.
- Emergency Assistance Services under which is the Compassionate visit – If the policy holder becomes hospitalized the insurance company can pay the cost of the airfare and accommodation of one relative or friend or an immediate family member up to 5 consecutive nights.
- This is very important especially if you are a solo traveler and nobody will take care of you at the hospital.
- Loss of Credit Card Benefit – Reimburses monetary loss of credit card as a direct result of theft, robbery or burglary.
- Trip Curtailment Benefit – The insurance also pays for travel and/or accommodation expenses if there is a need for you to cut your trip short due to serious injury, sickness, riot etc.
These are just some of the coverage of getting a travel insurance of course worst part is death and repatriation, this is also covered. Don’t hesitate to call or ask your travel agencies for any travel insurance referral. You don’t have to get it right away you can review it first and just get it even days before your travel. JUST DON’T FORGET TO GET ONE!! This is for peace of mind and for the family members who will be left behind if and when something untoward happens to the policy holder. This should be automatic! Do you have a preferred travel insurance? Care to share?
